Wesco Farms Count Your Blessings
"Blessing"
2009 AMHR 35.75" DNA PQ Tested
* Negative for the four ACAN dwarf mutations via inheritance
Blue Roan Mare
Sire: Wesco Farms Buckerowdyroo x Dam: Wesco Farms Bella Luna
Blessing was a surprise foal, another "gift" by Ringo! As her dam, Una, is one that never 'looks or acts' pregnant, no one had a clue she'd had a date thru the fence with Ringo! So, when Una came down with Blessings the day after Mother's Day, I made the remark about Counting your blessings, so Blessings was named!
Fortunately she's a lovely mare and a favorite here both with the family and visitors. She has inherited her dad's big stride, both parents awesome conformation and grand-dam Chiclet's (NFC Rowdys Lil Chiclet) big wide blaze!
As both her parents are N/N for ACAN dwarf genetics (D1, D2, D3, D4), Blessings has inherited that status and cannot pass those to her foals.
In 2013 we had a 'surprise' pregnancy resulting from Ringo jumping the fence in 2012 and a night of fun. Of course the one mare he covered was his daughter. Trinket is a lovely example of line-breeding, even if unintended!
We've now learned and our fencing is rated Ringo proof or not! Friends tease me he could nail a mare around the side of the barn, and I'm not sure he wouldn't like to try!
Blessings and her 2018 colt, Wesco Farms TCs Counting on Cobalt. Wesco Farms VA My Little Chickadee out for a trot.
Blessings as a yearling.
Our Breeding Philosophy
Wesco Farms has an unconventional breeding philosophy, in that we like a short foaling season (April foals ideally for our climate), and have chosen to NOT breed mares every year.
Our preference, is to put stallions to mares around May 1 and take them out May 31st for those April foals. Our stallions get a brief window - maybe one-two heat cycles depending on the mare. We're fine with a less than ideal cover rate, as we've dealt wit winter, summer and fall foals, April is our sweet spot!. We just don't want people to "assume" mares are at fault for what appears to be a sketchy foaling history as many mares do not get bred for a couple or three years depending on life circumstances; stallions chosen for that year; etc. AND rarely, do we breed a mare back after foaling.
We're including individual mare's breeding history below.
